There is not a more urgent scientific or social issue than the climate crisis.

There is no question that carbon dioxide concentrations in the atmosphere are rising and causing the global average temperature to rise.  There is also no question that the burning of fossil fuels is the primary cause of the increase in carbon dioxide concentrations.

If we are powerful enough to cause global warming,

we are powerful enough to stop it.

Global climate change has been in and out of public conversation for at least two decades.  The time for talk is over.  According to the latest UN report on climate change, "Anthropogenic warming and sea level rise would continue for centuries ... even if greenhouse gas concentrations were to be stabilised."  Reductions of carbon dioxide emissions are required immediately to limit the extent of climate change to survivable impacts.

I was honored to be selected by The Climate Project to present a slide show that:

  • explains how carbon dioxide warms the planet and how much the concentration in the atmosphere has already increased
  • documents impacts we have already seen using stunning photographs from around the world
  • provides inspiring and reassuring examples of humanity - giving us hope that we will implement existing technologies to reduce our carbon emissions

While the topic of climate change can be both disturbing and discouraging, this presentation is designed to leave the audience with a feeling of wonderment about this planet and deep hope that we will avert the most severe impacts of global climate change.  Participants have described it as "the best science class I've been to."

The Climate Project

The first initiative of The Climate Project was to train 1000 presenters to deliver global climate change slide shows around the United States.  Since the first training session in September 2006 over 5000 presentations have been delivered around the states.  You can apply to be a presenter or support the project in other ways by visiting www.theclimateproject.org.
